I’ve done quite a few SCRAP games over the years, so I had a general idea of what I was walking into with The Hunter Exam: Battle of Wits 2026—but this one ended up feeling a little different in a way I actually appreciated.
This is a smaller, more intimate experience compared to some of the larger SCRAP events that took place in large ballrooms. It’s currently running as a weekend pop-up inside a karaoke room at a Round1 arcade, so it does have that temporary, pop-up feel. The set design is pretty minimal—tables, a projector, and a few visual elements—but that simplicity kind of lets the experience focus on what really matters.

The actors absolutely shine here and really bring the whole thing to life. Their energy and interactions add a layer of fun that goes beyond just solving puzzles, and they were easily my favorite part of the experience.
The puzzles themselves are solid and approachable. If you’ve played older SCRAP games, this one feels a bit more relaxed and less heavy on intense paper puzzling, which actually makes it more accessible—especially for newer players.
I had never heard of Hunter x Hunter before I booked this, but I did watch a couple of episodes just to get a feel for it, and that was enough for me to follow along. You don’t need to be a superfan, but I do think having a little context helps you appreciate the details more.
That said, the fans in our group had an amazing time. The videos use actual voice actors from the series which the cast was very excited to tell me about after the game.
There were players who weren’t escape room people at all, but because they loved the show, they were very engaged—and honestly, that energy is contagious. They even picked up merch afterward, which says a lot about how much they enjoyed it.
For me, this felt like one of those experiences that really knows its audience. If you’re a fan of the series, or just looking for something interactive and different to do, it’s a really fun way to spend an evening.

Overall, I had a great time.
I laughed, I solved puzzles, and walked away with a win.
If you’ve done SCRAP games before, you’ll recognize the format, but this one feels a bit more casual, a bit more character-driven, and very welcoming—especially for fans of the anime.

It’s a fun, easy-to-jump-into experience—especially if you’re already in the area or a fan of the show.
Final Thoughts:
⭐ Fun and interactive
⭐ Actor-driven and engaging
⭐ Great for fans and first-timers alike
Would I recommend it? Yes—especially if you’re looking for something a little different and playful for a night out.
Also a little random but it’s located in the same mall where they filmed exterior scenes for Back to the Future, which is just a cool piece of trivia to add to the night.
