Last year I said I had no notes for Poe-Etique a Skiptown Productions immersive live theatre experience. I still don’t. I’m honestly not sure how they did it, but they improved upon perfection. Poe-Etique is one of my all-time favorite immersive theatre shows!

The story has shifted slightly, with more of the Raven woven in, and the characters’ relationships to each other feel deeper than ever. The cast has put in the work and it shows. The connections feel even more authentic. There are more interactive moments in the dance, so you aren’t only watching the movement, you’re part of it.
Because so many layers happen at once, I was able to see completely different scenes for a large portion of the show this time. It was like having a whole new experience in the same world. This is exactly why the show demands repeat visits.

I did make sure to catch a couple of my favorite moments from last season including The Red Death (Deanne Catterton) and Montresor (Carl Garcia) mirroring each other through the window. It’s still breathtaking. I also found new favorites such as a one-on-one with Lady Rowena and Pluto, played by Vanessa Lauren Gamble. I also loved watching Roderick Usher dance whether anyone was watching or not. I was watching, Viktor Simon, and you were killing it with your acrobatic moves.

If you saw Poe-Etique last year, go back. You’ll find a different show waiting for you. If you’ve never been, this is the perfect introduction to immersive theatre and a must-see for anyone who loves worlds like Sleep No More or Then She Fell. Please keep in mind the location is a much smaller space than The McKittrick Hotel, but they make great use of the space they have. They also use wonderful lighting and sound design to enhance the experience.
I didn’t think this show could get better and then it did. Thank you to Vincenzo Carubia and Poe-Etique for inviting me back.
