Stage Fright Theater Co. brought a remarkable, intimate and compelling piece of spirit theater to Midsummer Scream with Through the Veil: An Immersive Séance Experience.
The experience began long before entering the dark room. Accessing the séance required solving a series of cryptic clues posted on Instagram, tracking down three figures inside the Hall of Shadows and whispering a secret password. This search set an intriguing, exclusive tone before the show even started.
Ambrose T. Attaway welcomed our small group as we entered the small seance room and seated ourselves around the table. He handled the crowd with genuine skill, pacing, and presence. As a member of the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle, I have spent over a decade around magic and have attended countless theatrical séances. He used beautiful classic magic effects and spirit theater techniques, such as spirit slate writing occurring directly beneath an audience member’s hands, and weaves them seamlessly into a well-scripted narrative.
In a thoughtful touch after the performance, Attaway noted that his séances focus strictly on real figures from distant history. By deliberately avoiding spirits connected to anyone in the room, he ensures the experience remains theatrical, respectful, and entertaining without crossing into uncomfortable personal territory.
