The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride has always been one of my favorite spooky traditions, but this year felt extra special. As someone who grew up inspired by Cassandra Peterson—better known as the legendary Elvira, Mistress of the Dark—I was over the moon to see her involvement in the hayride. On media night, she even made an appearance on stage in Midnight Falls with Monte Revolta, and let me tell you, it was one of those unforgettable moments where my inner horror-loving kid and my haunt-loving adult self collided. I’ve watched her since I was little, and her movie Elvira: Mistress of the Dark remains one of my favorites, so seeing her in that environment was pure magic.

Her new maze, Elvira’s Trick or Treat Mayhem, is both scary and nostalgic—a true love letter to her fans and a perfect fit for the hayride. Add in the whimsical Gonk merry-go-round, and you’ve got that perfect mix of creepy fun and playful weirdness that makes Midnight Falls such a special place to visit.
Of course, the heart of the LA Haunted Hayride will always be its talented cast. From Monte Revolta and his delightfully macabre stage show, to the quirky townsfolk of Midnight Falls, to the actors who bring the mazes and hayride itself to life—the energy and creativity shine at every turn.

I was thrilled to see Monae Manor return, because it’s one of those houses that balances atmosphere and scares so well. The hayride itself continues to be a spooky ride through the dark woods, and Hellbilly Halloween adds even more thrills to the night. The scenes on the hayride reminded me a bit more of the past style from the old location, which was a joy for me.
For those looking to elevate the experience, the up-charge for Madame Aurora’s Seance is worth it. It’s chilling, atmospheric, and truly well executed—a unique kind of scare you don’t often find at traditional haunt attractions.
Beyond the scares, the event also offers plenty of extras: axe throwing, food vendors with all the seasonal treats, s’more’s and merchandise to remember your night in Midnight Falls.

One of the things I really love about LA Haunted Hayride is the strong female presence in its creative DNA. Having Cassandra Peterson’s influence this year along with Janelle Monáe highlights just how much women contribute to the haunt community, and of course the creator of LA Haunted Hayride Melissa Carbone. It’s inspiring, it’s exciting, and it makes this event feel even more meaningful.
LA Haunted Hayride continues to grow, evolve, and celebrate everything we love about Halloween. This year is a can’t-miss event, and as always, it left me grinning like a jack-o’-lantern.
