PLUG IN INITIATIVE: BRAVE SPACE ALLIANCE AND THE LOVELAND FOUNDATION
The Halogen Company is donating all proceeds from Yule: A Virtual Variety Hour to two organizations this year: Brave Space Alliance & The Loveland Foundation. These two organizations are helping marginalized groups, empowering them and helping them through the challenges 2020 has amplified. Please go to their websites: bravespacealliance.org&thelovelandfoundation.org tofindoutmoreanddonatewhatyou can. The Halogen Company is a supporter of Black Lives Matter and as a company we have always and will continue to keep our doors open in support of all peoples in the creation of our art.
Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. We strive to empower, embolden, and educate each other through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as we build toward the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
The Loveland Foundation was established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle in response to her widely successful birthday wish fundraiser, Therapy for Black Women and Girls. Her enthusiastic social media community raised over $250,000, which made it possible for Black women and girls nationally to receive therapy support. Black women and girls deserve access to healing, and that healing will impact generations. The Loveland Foundation is the official continuation of this effort to bring opportunity and healing to communities of color, and especially to Black women and girls. Through fellowships, residency programs, listening tours, and more, ultimately we hope to contribute to both the empowerment and the liberation of the communities we serve.

This year due to Covid, we are planning an interactive virtual variety hour experience for immersive fans from around the globe to enjoy. We are selling ad space for the 30 minutes before this show starts, when people are logging in and can enjoy some creative pre show holiday spirit. During this time we will also be highlighting our charities.
From prices that range between $25-$100 pick an advertisement that suits you! We encourage companies from everywhere to consider contributing. Even if you are not a company, what a cool gift to give grandma a shout out on an interactive platform to be seen by people across the globe. Sponsor a drink, a craft, trivia or send in your very own ad for consideration.
If interested, please email Julia at jules@thehalogencompany.com to discuss sponsorship or to receive an Ad Brochure that showcases our varying ads.

I LIKE SCARY MOVIES EXPERIENCE – Los Angeles, CA

I LIKE SCARY MOVIES

I like scary movies. I loved the I Like Scary Movies Experience. Where else can you get amazing photos inside of your favorite scary movies to post on your Instagram and create a serious FOMO for your friends? This is THE place. I actually recommend bringing at least one friend for companionship (and to help take photos).

There are five films represented at the experience: The Shining, The Lost Boys, Beetlejuice, It Chapter One and, Nightmare on Elm Street. You can experience take pics riding the tricycle in the Overlook Hotel or getting grabbed by a giant Freddy glove. I especially liked the Beetlejuice room, even though I am not much for foam pits personally. The photo ops are creative and fun.

If you’d like to see inside the experience check out my YouTube video below:

THE VOID – VR IMMERSIVE GAME

THE VOID

We played Ralph Breaks VR at The Void at the mall location in Glendale California. This experience is amazing. It’s an interactive game where you become a cartoon character in the world from the animated feature Ralph Breaks the Internet. Even though the world is virtual, you do actually interact with physical items and walk throughout the space. It’s really incredible. I went in thinking it would be an escape room like the other virtual escape rooms we had played previously at other companies, but was not disappointed even though it is absolutely NOT an escape room. You are playing a game and you can compete against the other players. It is a wonderfully fun and immersive VR experience. The staff was very professional and friendly at this location. I highly recommend it.

ODDITIES – Jurassic Planet at the LA County Fair – CA

I’ve never been particularly interested in dinosaurs, but I heard about Jurassic Planet and my curiosity got the best of me. I’m glad it did.

For only a small $5 up charge to your fair admisssion you can walk among 40 life sized realistic animatronic dinosaurs. It pretty darn cool! I know they aren’t actually real dinosaurs (except for a few live creatures on display such as an emu, alligator and tortoise), but they seem pretty real if you let your imagination run wild. I found myself wanting to pet them and at one point talking in “baby talk” to a few adorable animatronic baby dinos.

I really enjoyed Jurrasic Planet and wanted to share it here. I also recorded a bit of my experience which you can watch from YouTube below.

ODDITIES – The Speakeasy Society: The Door – California

SPEAKEASY SOCIETY

CHAPTER 3 – THE DOOR

You know a show is gonna be great when it sells out in 3 hours and it was amazing. Please note that this review contains spoilers. Expect all three chapters to go into production again this year, so if you’d like to experience the show without any prior knowledge then I recommend you do not continue reading.

KansasCollection_CH3_1.JPG

Full Cast (left to right) Matthew Bamberg- Johnson as Phil Daring, Nora King as Dorothy Gale, John Henningsen as Lyman, John McCormick as Oscar Diggs (The Wizzard), Genevieve Gearhart as Phoebe Daring

My husband and I arrived and were escorted to a porch-like area to meet with Lyman along with another couple. We spoke with him about the themes of each chapter so far. Chapter 1 was about hope, Chapter 2 opportunity and Chapter 3 the future. The five of us discussed the difference between destiny and inevitable consequence. Within a few minutes the wizard entered to escort us into the house.  He inquired as to whether we had brought our keys, as they were very important to what was to come.

Upon entering the house I couldn’t help but feel curious about those who resided there. It was so lived in, unlike what I have come to expect from a theatrical set. As we entered the living room we were introduced to Dorothy. We had our first decision to make. As a group we decided who she was. Then the wizard did a card reading where we each got involved. In an unexpected turn of events Phil and Phoebe/Ozma entered the room through a magical door. They took Dorothy back with them and we were sent on our way.

Overall the show was interesting and unique. The actors were absolutely amazing. It is a wonderfully fun way to be immersed in the retelling of these classic stories. I felt that even though Chapter 3 was the smallest audience per show, somehow it felt the least intimate. I really love what they are doing with The Kansas Collection though.  I can’t wait for Chapter 4.
